None of these videos are real, and no one actually gets hurt or killed in them. You don't have to watch it, and you don't have to like it, but to say it shouldn't be made is half way down the street of outlawing or regulating artistic expression. Like he's intentionally making movies to shock the people that ignored him in high school or something. Now I'm hearing about this Lucifer Valentine chap, and all the clips I've seen and blurbs I've read on his shit just makes it come off as cartoonish, like his goofy 90s comic book of a name. I certainly have an even greater appreciation for conventional special effects than I did before, seeing what Vogel and Toetag did with piss nothing budgets. I don't enjoy the movies, though I do feel as though my horror pallete is slightly more developed for having seen what I've seen. I've still yet to see Penance or any of Toetag's other stuff, but I may just ignore it at this point. I just finished Mordum, and it's to a point where I'm noting some of the subtler (and, dare i say, almost good) aspects of the writing and narrative while largely ignoring the snuff gore stuff because its, like I said, just silly.

Don't get me wrong, it's vile shit that's not easy to watch or in any way enjoyable, but it's not at all like seeing real world violence, which I can't even come close to watching. Reading about it definitely planted darker images in my mind than what was actually there, and what was actually there seemed relatively benign. It's certainly more graphic and realistic than Serbian, but nowhere near what I expected. So armed with my new stoicism, I decided to trek on into August Underground, and felt. This dawned on me while watching it for a second time with a friend who began laughing during the baby scene, not because she's a sick weirdo, but because she saw it for what it was- absurd and so over the top, it's outright difficult to take it seriously in any way. I saw A Serbian Film a year or so ago and it definitely shocked me on a first viewing, but on subsequent viewings only revealed itself to be somewhat silly in its attempts at depravity, and I now just think its kind of dumb. A few years back, I stumbled upon the infamous August Underground trilogy, which I immediately decided against watching and instead only read about.įast forward to today, and me and a friend decided to finally delve into it, after he watched the first movie and told me it wasn't that bad.
